Being on the spotlight: The Life of an introvert

Life of an introvert

The Introverted Life

The world and society often stereotype people who they deem fit to do certain things or be certain things sometimes everyone is classified in a single class.

The society is more of being on the spotlight at all times, mingling with people, talking, showing off, being loud an all there is and somehow everyone demands a level of extroversion from every other person, it has become the norm and when you find people who are the opposite of the world’s stereotype they are seen as being deficient or having personality problems, or being antisocial. It’s okay if you don’t feel like always associating with people, it’s very much okay if you often spend time alone and live in your head, it’s fine if you don’t feel like dancing in public, taking a picture or being that talkertive. But people find it difficult to comprehend or accept.

Being introverted is a gift, i cannot sing it loud enough! it is your kind of person and personality it doesn’t mean being shy or mediocre as some people may tag it, if you are that introvert who has a self esteem problem keep working on yourself to become better, self esteem is something most persons have an issue with. Though most introverts seem more shy but truth is everyone is at some point.

Being introverted is not antisocial

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. —Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’ve heard friends say, You are too quite, too reserved or conservative. You are always indoors, go out, do this and that blah blah blah… some even force me to do certain things, really i try as much as i can so not to seem to socialize “abnormally” as they tag it but that’s my thing, away from the noise, alone, using the power of my imagination, being by myself always for me, is both a place of innovation and self mastery, it’s not like i don’t do all these social things but i do them when i want or feel like to do them.

In as much as i don’t like being on the spotlight, somehow I’m beginning to enjoy it, there’s something it does to you, it takes you out of your comfort zone and makes you do the unimaginable, you’ll get to realize in the long run attributes or abilities you never knew you had! Well i think this goes for everyone not necessarily the introverted.i

Lately I’ve been put on the spotlight most of the time it wasn’t fun for me because i had to like go out of my person to do certain things which i normally wouldn’t but then i learnt a thing or two being put out there, other times it felt like people pushing in a way i didn’t like. Being introverted doesn’t mean being antisocial, it doesn’t mean being a snob, being a snob is a personal choice, solitude is not depression neither is being alone trying not to socialize. These are inner strengths of the introvert, the source of our productivity, it is how we refuel our energy.

Introversion is a gift

There is power in being introverted. Lately i got two books from a friend that i plan on reading, The Introvert Power by Laurie Helgoe and Quiet- The power of an introvert in a world that can’t stop talking by Susan cain. They are very good reads i suggest every one should read them both the extroverted and introverted.

The first great thing is to find yourself and for that you need solitude and contemplation—at least sometimes. I can tell you deliverance will not come from the rushing noisy centers of civilization. It will come from the lonely places. —Fridtj of Nansen

Self mastery comes from reflection, being alone, we internalize every thing and work from inside out. When we recognize the power in who we are, when we master our emotions we become outstanding , when we curb our appetites and master self control the sky would be our starting point!
Whatever form we choose to pass through the process, meditation, solitude, reflection being alone and the list goes on you’d agree with me that it’s a surge of inner power or strength i mean when your mind is sound your body will be sound. That’s why when a quiet person in the room talks, everyone is silent and listens as they draw wisdom from their inner strength.

An except from the book Introvert Power
What constitutes an introvert is quite simple. We are a vastly diverse group of people who prefer to look at life from the inside out. We gain energy and power through inner reflection, and get more excited by ideas than by external activities. When we converse, we listen well and expect others to do the same. We think first and talk later. Writing appeals to us because we can express ourselves without intrusion, and we often prefer communicating this way. Even our brains look different than those of extroverts.

We are totally different, we can’t control being put on the spotlight but we can try in such cases to go all out which is exhausting but most importantly the society needs to understand that we have to be prepared before we are put on the out there it has to come from a place of inner strength and if people see it this way they’d respect the difference in individuality.
